Leave No Trace At Colin Glen

“Take only memories, leave only footprints.”

Colin Glen is proud to be a member of Leave No Trace Ireland – an organisation providing research, education and outreach to help us all to continue to enjoy and protect the great outdoors.

Our 200-acre Forest Park is a treasure trove of natural beauty, delicate and unique wildlife, and a rich environmental heritage. As our busy park grows to welcome more visitors than ever before, it is our duty to continue to protect Colin Glen Forest from potential harm so that we can all enjoy the forest in a low-impact way.

In an effort to conserve the forest fondly known as Belfast’s Green Lung, and to sustain a healthy and vibrand outdoor environment, our team aims to follow Leave No Trace’s seven guiding principles:

  1. Plan Ahead and Prepare
  2. Be Considerate of Others
  3. Respect Farm Animals and Wildlife
  4. Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces
  5. Leave What You Find
  6. Dispose of Waste Properly
  7. Minimise the Effects of Fire

We have also undertaken several initiatives to better facilitate and encourage individuals to “leave no trace” during their visit, including the installation of bins along park pathways, regular litter-picks and lake clean-ups. Our work is not yet done, as we also hope to announce several new green initiatives in the coming year.

Last month, Leave No Trace Ireland launched a new short online course where everyone can learn about the 7 principles of Leave No Trace.
